Heartland Pagan Festival 2005
The debate in the scientific and the paranormal communities over what orbs are and how they are created have adherents along the long line of the "what if" continuum. In the early days of digital photography many orbs were the result of dropped pixel, a problem the newest cameras have overcome.

This photo was taken by a digital camera belonging to author Christopher Penczak. This was photo number two, because Christopher wanted to make sure he had a good shot. In the 5 seconds or so between shot we went from clear night to orbs.

We (from left to right: Raven Grimassi, Stephanie Taylor, Christopher, myself, and Ellen Dugan) were sitting at the edge of the bonfire circle, and dancers were just beginning to move out onto the sand.

Certainly some of these orbs are fairborne sand or dust, partices which roll when in flight, and only one is opaque enough to be interesting. Was it the airborn sand that appears hear, or is it a phots of the energy beginning to be raised by the dancers?

What do you think?

La Recoleta, Midnight, Halloween Night 2006

A Perfect False Photographic Anomaly
In a cafe in Buenos Aires my friend Judy tried to snap a fash picture of a bride on the arm of her farther as they waited to enter the church across the street. The expectation was that the flash would reflect off the window resulting in a photo of one blast of light. Instead the flash ricocheted off the window frame and picked up the reflect of her husband, Jon.
